To have a synthetic view of the city or country, it is  is always wise to start from museums to learn about its city. We are here at the Rijksmuseum, the Dutch national museum.

The collection of the Rijksmuseum consists of 1 million objects and is dedicated to arts, crafts, and history from the years 1200 to 2000.

The collection contains more than 2,000 paintings from the Dutch Golden Age by notable painters such as Jacob van Ruisdael, Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen, Rembrandt, and Rembrandt’s pupils.

The most outstanding art piece in this museum is “The Night Watch” by Rembrandt. The painting is famous for three things: its colossal size , the dramatic use of light and shadow and the perception of motion in what would have traditionally been a static military group portrait (from Wiki).

Rembrandt is the symbolic artist in Renaissance to move the focus from religious saints while to depicts of normal person.
