I was completely stunned by the first movie of “The Lord of the Rings” series at that time I watched in 2001. Besides the grand might & magic world, the small Hobbiton village named “Shire” becomes the most peaceful and tranquil land I dreamed of.
I never expected this fairyland was in front of me in Giethoorn.
Giethoorn is a small town with only 2,600 inhabitants. There are no roads in the center, all transport is done by water over one of the many canals. It attracts the tourists for its boat-filled waterways, footpaths, bicycle trails and centuries-old thatched-roof houses.
We rent a small motorized boat that cruises at the lowest speed, offering us a perfect chance to slow down our pace and enjoy all the scenery along the way.
All the photos taken during the boat trip make me believe that the world ever paused for me in that afternoon.
